Can minimalism evoke emotion through its simplicity, economy and attention to detail? Can the design of minimalist forms with limited means of expression in a world filled with infinite possibilities even cause a stir?
“I’ve already talked to countless people around the world and shared a dream with everyone. My feet stood on the ground, only my gaze reached above the hustle and chaos.”
Le Corbusier
Minimalism in architecture refers to achieving a balance, reaching the point where we find that in a given work nothing more can be added, but also nothing more can be removed. This is not easy, as it is necessary to choose elements, materials, forms with extreme sensitivity and precision. Nothing can be left to chance. “Intention is something that goes deep into our hearts, a quality of the mind that gave birth to it.” (Le Corbusier). The approach to the project presented was no different.
The house project was made for a family of 4-people on a plot of land located in close proximity to the forest. The surrounding nature became the backdrop for the geometric form of this building, and the impressive glazing opens the house to the surrounding landscape and allows to constantly enjoy the charms of carefully sought plot. It is worth noting the choice of windows – some of them are facades with hidden frames, adding lightness and emphasizing the sensuality of its design. They illuminate spacious rooms with natural light and, following the changing time of day, give the interiors a different character. The choice of subdued materials such as white plaster and light gray brick harmonize the building with its surroundings.
The entrance to this building is a spectacular space, leading the eye into the distance, making maximum use of the length of a plot. The height adds to its slenderness and stateliness as well as takes it into another dimension – from the public space, i.e. the street, to the private part of the residents.
On the first floor, in addition to living room with dining room and partially separated kitchen, a master bedroom with private bathroom and spacious dressing room, gym, and auxiliary rooms have been arranged. In the kitchen area, at the investors’ request, an additional small table was designed for quick daily meals, with a small patio with the owners’ favorite tree dedicated to this space.
A cantilevered staircase leads to the first floor, which appears to be almost levitating, the only contact point of which is the corridor wall. They lead to the first floor, where the homeowners’ bedrooms are located.
